Harrow (University of Westminster) Proposed CLOSURE of Ceramics Department!
'the trouble with clay is you can't store it on a memory stick' - quote from a senior manager
justifying the closure proposal! (Possibly NOT a ceramicist!!!)
This is an unbelievable statement which should return to haunt him or her! One of the world's leading ceramic courses is dismissed because clay doesn't fit on a memory stick!!
Words fail me!!!
Attached is a press release and some images of the new (and old fire ruined) Departments showing the Phoenix risen from the ashes thanks to Kyra and her team
- ONLY if Management have their way - to be dashed in pieces on the ground!
Kyra Cane and her team and students need your support to stop this travesty going ahead!
Please write to the Vice Chancellor expressing your views (and perhaps OUTRAGE!)
at this proposed act of vandalism! Having announced to students and staff the closure and suspension of the new intake - Consultation is now proposed.
Let everyone concerned see that this closure is a step too far!
I hope that the Arts Council, The Crafts Council and The Craft Potters Association will also be active in this campaign.
Surely they have been silent for too long, as course after course is closed or modified beyond recognition? May this provide the call to ACTION!
